Bad Indians writing club update!

Hey everyone. Just got back from Oregon and now I'm going to be in Thailand for the last half of this month, not work related tho that would have been cool. Just a vacation to get away from all this snow. So for this month I have an assignment for you! We're going to focus on flash fiction for these exercises, so a short story in a 1000 words or less, which sounds like a lot but it really isn't.
I got this idea from a conversation with Helen Knott who wrote Becoming a Matriarch. You can partner up with somebody, or you can do it by yourself, and it doesn't have to be in person so facetime away. Choose a picture on your phones and tell a story about that picture. It doesn't have to be the real and true story of that picture, it can be or you can make something up. One of the things we learn as writers is that just because something really happened doesn't mean that it belongs in our story. It has to connect somehow in a way that moves the overall story forward. If you've got writers block (haha) then imagine it as a scene from a familiar fairy tale or movie. What if that photo was a scene from Little Red Riding Hood?
Then, I want you to practice curiosity. We're not offering feedback or ways that the story could be better. Don't worry about being better, be curious.
Tell me more about ... ?
What's that just off camera?
How did you get there?
Where the heck is Little Red?
After you've done that a few times, send me what you came up with! In March we're going to try for the 17th which is a Monday, because in my house Sunday nights are for chicken wings and Star Wars. We started last August after Kamala's appearance at the DNC reminded me too much of Senator Palpatine's rise to power and 're watching the Book of Boba Fett right now. One of the things I really like about Star Wars is that it doesn't let us think that destroying the Death Star (and everybody on it) meant that life immediately became good for everybody. It became better in some ways, worse in others, and the work of the rebellion wasn't over at all.
